Technical SEO audit
Find what stops search engines from crawling, understanding and indexing your pages.
What we check
Full audits run 44 Technical SEO checks across your crawled pages. The free instant scan runs 13 of them on a single page.
Site
- Homepage is reachable. If the start page does not return a successful response, search engines and visitors cannot reach the site.
- HTTP redirects to HTTPS. Serving the site over plain HTTP exposes visitors to tampering and creates duplicate versions of every page.
- robots.txt is available. robots.txt tells crawlers what they may fetch and where your sitemap is.
- XML sitemap found. A sitemap helps search engines discover every important page, including new or poorly linked ones.
- Security headers on the homepage. Security headers protect visitors against downgrade attacks, content sniffing and clickjacking.
- Lab performance metrics (Core Web Vitals). Loading speed and visual stability affect both user experience and search visibility.
Status codes
- Pages returning 4xx errors. Pages that return "not found" or similar errors waste crawl budget and give visitors a dead end.
- Pages returning 5xx errors. Server errors make pages unavailable; repeated errors can cause search engines to crawl and index less of the site.
- Pages that could not be fetched. Timeouts and connection failures mean visitors and crawlers may not be able to load these pages.
- Redirect chains. Each extra redirect adds latency and can stop crawlers before they reach the final page.
- Internal links pointing to redirects. Linking to URLs that redirect slows visitors down and wastes crawl budget.
Links
- Broken internal links. Links to missing pages frustrate visitors and leak authority away from your content.
- Broken external links. Links to dead external pages look neglected and send visitors nowhere.
- Orphan pages (in the sitemap but not linked). Pages that no other crawled page links to are hard for visitors and search engines to find and are often treated as unimportant.
- Pages buried deep in the site. Pages many clicks from the homepage get crawled less often and receive less internal authority.
Titles and descriptions
- Missing page titles. The title is the headline shown in search results; without one, search engines invent their own.
- Duplicate page titles. Identical titles make pages compete with each other and make it hard for searchers to pick the right one.
- Titles too short or too long. Very short titles say little; very long ones are cut off in search results.
- Missing meta descriptions. Search engines often use the meta description as the snippet; without one, they pick text that may not sell the page.
- Duplicate meta descriptions. Reused descriptions do not help searchers tell pages apart.
- Descriptions too short or too long. Short descriptions waste the snippet; long ones get truncated.
Headings and content
- Missing H1 headings. The main heading tells visitors and machines what the page is about.
- Multiple H1 headings. Several H1s blur the page's main topic.
- Thin content. Pages with very little text give search and AI systems little to understand or rank. Some pages (contact, login) are legitimately short.
- Duplicate content. Identical pages at different URLs split ranking signals and confuse which version should rank.
- Near-duplicate content. Pages that are almost the same compete with each other and may be treated as duplicates.
- Missing language declaration. The lang attribute helps search engines, translation tools and screen readers.
Indexing
- Missing canonical tags. A canonical tag tells search engines the preferred URL when the same content is reachable at several addresses.
- Canonical tags pointing to broken or redirecting URLs. A canonical pointing at an error or redirect sends conflicting signals and may stop the page from being indexed.
- Pages excluded from search (noindex). noindex removes a page from search results. That is right for private or low-value pages, but a mistake on important ones.
- noindex pages listed in the sitemap. Listing pages you exclude from search sends contradictory signals.
- Sitemap URLs that are not indexable. A sitemap should list only live, final URLs; errors and redirects in it waste crawl budget.
- Indexable pages missing from the sitemap. Pages left out of the sitemap may be discovered later or less reliably.
- hreflang annotations. Incorrect hreflang (invalid codes, missing self-references) can show visitors the wrong language version.
Mobile and accessibility
- Missing mobile viewport. Without a viewport tag, phones render the desktop layout zoomed out.
- Images without alt attributes. Alt text describes images to screen readers and search engines.
- Images without width and height. Images without dimensions make the layout jump while loading (layout shift).
- Form fields without labels. Fields without labels are hard to use with screen readers and voice control.
- Links without accessible text. Links with no text (e.g. icon-only links) are announced as just "link" by screen readers.
- Insecure resources on HTTPS pages. Browsers block or warn about http:// resources on https:// pages.
- Invalid structured data (JSON-LD). JSON-LD that is not valid JSON is ignored completely by search engines.
Performance and URLs
- Slow server responses. A slow first byte delays everything else. Measured once from our server; your visitors' times vary by location.
- Very large HTML documents. Large HTML is slow to download and parse on mobile networks.
- URLs that are hard to read. Short, lowercase, hyphenated URLs are easier to read, share and understand. Changing existing URLs needs redirects, so weigh the benefit.
